Uniforms and Badges
The Scout Association is a uniformed youth organisation. Each group in scouting has it's own distinctive necker (scarf) and each section has it's own distinctive uniform jumper or shirt.
Beavers wear Beaver Blue sweatshirts. Navy Blue Activity trousers are the official bottom half uniform but Kanga does not insist on this.
Cubs wear Bottle Green sweatshirts. Navy Blue Activity trousers are the official bottom half uniform but Akela does not insist on this.
Scouts wear Teal coloured shirts. Navy Blue Activity trousers are the official bottom half uniform, Skip expects these or navy blue combat trousers to be worn.
Explorer Scouts/Young Leaders wear mushroom coloured shirts
Network and Leaders wear beige coloured shirts
At 1st Pitsea & Vange we also have a Royal Blue polo shirt as casual uniform that can be worn by any member of the group.
Our necker is blue and grey and must have the groups necker badge sewn on the point (a picture will be uploaded soon).
We hold a small stock of uniform, please ask your section leader for details. Uniform is also available from various stockists, although some might be more expensive than ours.
Badges are also a great part of scouting, either to let people know which District and Group you belong to or to show which skills you have completed. Parents often ask where these badges should be sewn on, please click on the relevant link below:

The Scout Salute
The Scout Salute is made with the right hand. It is used during ceremonies and also at other special times, such as
when you are presented with a badge.
The three fingers that you hold up should remind you of your promise to:
Do your duty to God and to the Queen
Help other people
Keep the Scout Law

The Scout Sign
When you make your promise during your investiture you make a special kind of salute called the Scout Sign. It is the same
as the salute except that you hold your hand at shoulder height instead of putting it up to you head.
You also make the Scout Sign whenever you are renewing your promise, for example at a parade on when another Scout is invested.
